OTAC Awards Criteria

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD:  Recognizes a member of OTAC who has made a sustained and significant contribution to OT. The recipient is viewed as a role model and/or inspirational example.

1.   20 years of OT practice, with last 5 in California.

2. Significant contributions to the advancement of OT in any of the following: education, OTAC or local chapter activities, clinical practice, community involvement, legislation, or research.

3. Publications and/or oral presentations.

 

AWARD OF EXCELLENCE:  Recognizes a member of OTAC who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of OT in the area(s) of therapeutic practice, education, research, education, administration, organizational and community service.

1.   Organizational activities: OTAC, AOTA, Health related or community associations.

2.   Program activities: Patient care and program development.

3.   Communication activities: oral presentations and written work including publications.

 

COTA HONORARY AWARD:  Recognizes a COTA member of OTAC who has made significant contributions to the advancement of OT in the area(s) of therapeutic practice, education, communication, organizational and community service.

1.   Minimum of 5 years of OT practice.

2.   Development of innovative treatment technique(s).

3.   Participation in academic and/or clinical education programs, written/oral presentations.

4.   Organizational activities: OTAC, AOTA, patient care task force, community associations.

 

OT PRACTICE AWARD:  Recognizes a member of OTAC who has demonstrated outstanding practice skills and who has applied the theoretical principles of OT on a high level.

1.   Minimum of 5 years of OT practice.

2.   Qualifies in clinical expertise in all of the following areas: a) recognized as a resource person and knowledgeable of OT principles and practice; b) solves a variety of clinical problems; c) sees short-term and long-term needs of clients; d) articulates OT to consumers and other healthcare professionals; e) held in high esteem.

3.   Qualifies in at least one of the following related activities: a) shares knowledge through workshops, articles, consulting, clinical teaching; b) research; c) outstanding leadership, staff or program development.

 

JAN MATSUTSUYU OUTSTANDING SERV1CE AWARD:   Recognizes a member of OTAC who has made significant contributions which impact the association and its objectives.

1.   Sustained service to OTAC in elected or appointed positions locally and statewide.

2.   Special projects or task forces to advance OT in California.

 

COTA/OTR PARTNERSHIP AWARD:  Recognizes a COTA and an OTR who, through their collaboration of occupational therapy, exemplify the professional partnership.

1.  Evidence of COTA/OTR partnership.

2.  Significant contributions in research, practice, and/or education.

3.  Significant impact on OT on the state, regional, or national levels through demonstrating and sharing their expertise and knowledge through publications and presentations.

 

FIELDWORK EDUCATOR AWARD:  Recognizes a member of OTAC who has demonstrated outstanding skills in fieldwork education.

1.  Minimum of 3 years of OT practice.

2. Qualifies in educator expertise in all of the following areas: a) recognized as a resource person by peers and as very knowledgeable of OT fieldwork education; b) facilitates OT fieldwork education process; c) mentors a variety of OT fieldwork students; d) held in high esteem by students and colleagues.

3.  Qualifies in at least one of these related activities: a) shares knowledge of OT fieldwork education through workshops, articles, consulting, teaching; b) contributes to development of new fieldwork opportunities; c) facilitates optimal student learning environment.

 

OUTSTANDING STUDENT AWARD:  Recognizes a member of OTAC who has made significant contributions to OT in the area(s) of scholarship, organizational activities, community service, and/or advocacy.

 

Scholarship:

1.   Needs letter of reference from an academic professor and transcripts.

2.   Be enrolled in an accredited OT program in California. Graduate students who are    OTRs may be enrolled in a related field with the intent to advance the profession of OT.

3.   Have completed a minimum of 2 semesters of quarters, be in good standing established by college or university, have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and a minimum of 3.5 in the major.

4.  Have participated in a scholarly project that has been accepted for publication or presentation in a public or professional venue.

5.  Have received academic awards and/or be a member of an honor's class or society and/or on Dean's or President's List of Scholars.

  Organizational Activities: 

1.  Current member and active participant of OTAC, AOTA, and SOTA (if appropriate & available).

Community Service:

1.  Participation in health related community groups.

Advocacy:

  1. Demonstrates leadership activities that promote OT.

 

OTAC AWARD OF APPRECIATION:

Recognizes an individual, group, or organization that has demonstrated support and advocacy for the profession of occupational therapy.

1.   Membership in OTAC and/or AOTA is not a criterion for this award.

2.  Volunteers time, money, or supplies to activities promoting occupational therapy.

3.  Demonstrates advocacy on a sustained and consistent basis.

4.  Establishes relationships with legislative persons or organizations to advocate for OT.

 

LUELLA GRANGAARD POLITICAL ACTION AWARD:

Recognizes a member of OTAC who has significantly contributed in promoting occupational therapy in the political arena and to provide incentive for others to do so.

1.  Current member in OTAC and AOTA, priority given to those demonstrated contributions at the California state or California local level.

2.   Demonstrate contributions in one or more or following: Active role training and organizing; educating legislators, acting as advocate for consumers; active participation in OTAC and AOTPAC; active role in activities of CBOT and NBCOT.

 

OT ENTREPRENEUR AWARD:  

To recognize a member (or members, if partnership) of the Occupational Therapy Association

of California (OT/L or OTA/C), who through outstanding professional entrepreneurship has contributed to the

occupational therapy profession of California. The recipient(s) of this award should have:

1. Evidence of an established private and/or community practice for five years or more, held in high esteem by peers and

other professionals.

2. Significant expertise in the chosen area of practice, contributing to the field of OT in the areas of education, research, written

and oral presentation or consultation

3. Demonstrated evidence of outstanding leadership, staff, and/or program development skills.
