Day in the Life Series | Emerging Settings
Presenter: Rashelle Nagata, OTD, OTR/L, is a triple trojan, having graduated from the University of Southern California (USC) with bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees in occupational therapy. She focused her OT doctoral residency in the holistic health, wellness, and academic success of college students with diverse learning needs. As an OTD resident, Nagata practiced Lifestyle Redesign® at the USC Occupational Therapy Faculty Practice, which is an outpatient mental health clinic that specializes in facilitating the behavioral health change of clients with neurodevelopmental disorders and mental illness. She also acquired residency and then a full-time position as a learning specialist at the USC Kortschak Center for Learning and Creativity.
As of April 2022, Nagata became the learning specialist at the newly instituted Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine. Her main role is to provide individualized academic coaching, workshops, and outreach events to medical students to support their development of evidence-based learning and well-being strategies.
Nagata has presented in national, regional and state conferences in topics related to the support of students with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, first-generation college students, navigating an online learning environment and occupational therapy practitioners working in higher education. She is an educator, program developer, mentor and pioneer for practitioners within higher education.
