This session will provide an accessible overview of House of Representatives (HR) 1 also known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, and its potential implications for occupational therapy (OT) practice in California. We will examine how proposed changes could influence service delivery, workforce requirements, reimbursement, and advocacy priorities, and discuss what OT practitioners and students need to know to stay informed and engaged. Participants will leave with a clear understanding of how HR 1 may shape the future of OT in California, and concrete ways to support the profession through ongoing policy developments. This session will include time for Q&A.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Identify key provisions of HR 1 and explain how they affect occupational therapy practice, reimbursement, and workforce development in California.
- Engage in action steps towards advocacy as OT practitioners and students in the face of policy changes introduced by HR 1.
