Prescribing Connection: How OT Students Can Lead the Fight Against Loneliness

PRESENTER: Ivory Rose, OTD, OTR/L

Loneliness has been declared a public health epidemic, and occupational therapy practitioners are uniquely positioned to respond. Join this interactive one-hour session to discover social prescribing—a powerful model that connects people to meaningful community activities like art, nature, movement, and social connection to improve well-being and combat loneliness.

Designed specifically for OT and OTA students, this session will ground social prescribing in the principles of occupational science, explore emerging models from the U.S. and abroad, and highlight the critical—yet largely untapped—role that OTPs can play. As future leaders in the profession, you have the power to champion this approach from the start of your careers. Leave with practical, actionable strategies to integrate social prescribing into your fieldwork and Capstone experiences, your local communities, and your vision for what occupational therapy can be.
