This interactive, case-based training is designed for occupational therapy practitioners who have previously been trained in motivational interviewing (MI) and want to refine their communication skills in practice. Participants will engage in structured analysis and practice using realistic occupational therapy case studies across practice settings. Through small-group discussion and live practice, participants will strengthen their ability to recognize change talk and sustain talk, respond skillfully to ambivalence, and use MI-consistent strategies to support autonomy and collaboration in complex clinical encounters.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Apply advanced MI strategies to complex occupational therapy-specific case scenarios.
- Distinguish and respond intentionally to change talk and sustain talk.
- Demonstrate increased skill in reflective listening (simple, complex, and strategic reflections).
- Use MI to navigate resistance, emotional content, and competing priorities.
- Reflect on their own communication habits and identify areas for growth.
Registration Fees:
